Small Grants

Are you seeking funding for an arts initiative that will take place within the Borough of Guildford?

Need help with money for a ‘one off’ arts event to be spent on publicity, materials, travel costs and /or fees?

Perhaps you are looking for the backing of an established charitable arts organisation in support of applications to large funding bodies such as Guildford Borough Council or the Big Lottery Fund?

In which case you may be eligible for a small grant from Guildford Arts.

Introduction

  1. Guildford Arts makes small grants available to individuals and voluntary groups undertaking arts initiatives that are of benefit to the community within Guildford Borough.
  2. Whilst it is possible that a grant will cover the full cost of an arts initiative, it is expected that it will usually provide a part contribution towards costs that will be covered by awards from a number of sources.
  3. Successful applicants are required to acknowledge Guildford Arts sponsorship in any publicity materials including the use of the Guildford Arts logo where practical.
  4. Successful applicants will be required to submit evidence of how the grant was used and of the success (or otherwise) of the initiative.
  5. Guildford Arts will publicise successful applications through its newsletter News and Views and its web site.

Guidance

  1. Grants are typically in the range £100 to £250 (£500 in exceptional circumstances).
  2. Commercial, Local Authority and Profit Making initiatives are excluded.
  3. Grants cannot be used retrospectively or for normal running expenses.
  4. Grants are not available to support building construction or repair costs.
  5. Grants are not available to contribute to personal education costs.
  6. Grants are awarded twice yearly at the end of May and November. Applications must be received by April 30th and October 31st respectively.
  7. Applications for initiatives that enhance the lives of young people and the disadvantaged will be particularly welcome.

Applications

Applicants should use the on-line Application Form (See Menu) provided by Guidlford Arts which requires information covering the following topics:

  1. Name of Individual / organisation making the application and contact details.
  2. The amount requested.
  3. Details of the individual(s) delivering the initiative, their experience and qualifications.
  4. Outline of the proposed arts initiative giving location, activities, intended outcomes and estimates of numbers and characteristics of participants / beneficiaries.
  5. Break down of the anticipated costs.
  6. Description of other sources of funding being pursued.
  7. A brief justification for the initiative.
(PDF versions of the application form and evaluation form can be downloaded by clicking 'Application' and 'Evaluation')

Procedure:

  1. On receipt, the awards administrator will review the application and may seek further information from the applicant.
  2. Applications that do not meet the criteria stated above will be rejected.
  3. All applications will be considered together by the Awards Sub Committee. Guildford Arts does not intend that applications shall be competitive. However, there may be funding constraints imposed by the financial budget available for awards.
  4. Decisions by the Awards Sub Committee are final.

Conditions of Award

Guildford Arts requires that successful applicants

  1. Give permission to Guildford Arts to use the information provided in the award application for publicity purposes.
  2. Acknowledge the contibution of Guildford Arts to the project in any publicity material including the use of Guidford Arts logo.
  3. Agree to provide Guildford Arts with an evaluation of the arts project using the on-line Evaluation Form.

Guildford Arts will not release awards until evidence is provided by the applicant that all necessary funding has been sourced and formally committed to the project. Guildford Arts understands that the processes associated with assembling funding for an arts project may well require reassessment of the approaches to be used and resources required. Successful applicants are advised to stay in touch with Guildford arts as matters progress.
